Student Council : Fostering Leadership and Responsibility

At SDMS, the Student Council plays a pivotal role in shaping the school environment and promoting student involvement in the decision-making process. The Student Council is a democratically elected body that represents the voice of the student community and works towards improving the overall school experience. Through various roles and responsibilities, council members act as leaders, role models, and change-makers, embodying the school’s values of integrity, responsibility, and collaboration.

Framework and Formation

The SDMS Student Council is composed of students from different grades, ensuring equal representation across the school.

School Captain

The students’ leader from Class XII oversees council activities, coordinates with faculty, and leads council meetings.

Vice - Captain

The students’ leader from Class XI assists the Captain and takes on leadership duties when required.

Class Representatives

Elected members from each class who bring forward ideas, suggestions, and concerns from their peers.

Prefect

A school prefect maintains discipline, assists teachers, organizes events, supports students, and upholds school rules and values.

Electoral Process & Guidelines

The election process at SDMS is designed to be transparent, fair, and democratic, encouraging students to actively participate in school governance. Students interested in joining the council, campaign for their desired positions by presenting their ideas, and plans to the student body. The selection for Captain and Vice Captain is made through voting done by both students and teachers whereas Class Prefects and Class Representatives are selected by voting of teachers only.

Investiture Ceremony

The Investiture Ceremony is a proud moment in school, where student leaders are officially entrusted with responsibilities. It symbolizes leadership, dedication, and service. Newly appointed prefects take an oath to uphold school values and inspire their peers with integrity and commitment.

Empowering Students for Leadership

Being part of the Student Council is an invaluable learning experience for students. It equips them with skills such as public speaking, problem-solving, decision-making, and project management. Moreover, it instills in them a sense of responsibility, preparing them to take on leadership roles in the future. Whether organizing events, leading initiatives, or addressing student concerns, council members leave SDMS with enhanced leadership abilities and a deeper understanding of what it means to serve a community.

Collaboration with Faculty & Administration

The Student Council maintains close collaboration with the school’s faculty and administration. Regular meetings are held where council members present ideas, discuss upcoming events, and propose solutions to challenges faced by the student body. This partnership fosters a positive and open dialogue between students and staff, ensuring that the council’s activities align with the school’s goals and vision
